Winter doesn’t have to mean total hibernation for Kiwi golfers. However, Auckland and the north of the country can be counted on to offer friendlier conditions than the lower reaches of the South Island might present. And Maungakiekie Golf Club in the city’s south is one place you can capture a little mid-year sunshine.

As the club says, the Maungakiekie course has the grace that only a mature golf course can offer – well-contoured fairways and greens and an abundance of native trees attracting a wide variety of colourful birdlife. Now 110 years old, the club has kept pace with modern course design and agronomy techniques. Recent redevelopments devised by renowned American course architect David Harman, who blessed the country with Kauri Cliffs, have given Maungakiekie several new fairways, greens and challenges to test golfers of all playing frequency and ability levels.

The clubhouse at Maungakiekie Golf Club owns some of the most stunning views in Auckland, looking across the course to the Waitakere Ranges and the Manukau Harbour Headland and all within 15 minutes’ drive from Auckland Airport and the CBD.
