If you’ve never played golf at Jack’s Point before, it’s easy to be lulled into a sense of wonder by your surroundings. While the Remarkables frame the eastern side of the site and are impossible to miss from all points of the course, the role Lake Wakatipu plays in the layout is not immediately revealed. When the lake first reveals itself on the fifth and sixth holes, it can have a spellbinding impact as it accompanies play for the next few holes. Suddenly, golfers are surrounded by majestic settings on all sides and it’s easy to become distracted, making it tough to keep one’s head down at the all-important moments of impact.

Jack’s Point, which debuted in fourth place in New Zealand Golf Digest’s inaugural Top 50 Courses ranking this year, captures the best of Queenstown’s stunning scenery and complements the outstanding setting with a layout to match. Just be aware that winter is coming, so fast approaching is the course’s annual two-month closure period from mid-June until mid-August.
