Justin Rose, who scored just two points in five Ryder Cup matches, voiced displeasure in the Hazeltine set-up following the American win. It appears the course wasn’t the only thing throwing curveballs in the Englishman’s direction.

On Wednesday, Rose announced he will miss the next eight weeks of competition due to complications from a nagging back issue. The news is not a total shock: the 2013 US Open winner was out for an extended period this season with pain stemming from a herniated disc. The 36-year-old wasn’t much of a factor during the year’s final three Majors, yet did capture the Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro.

“At this point in my career, it is important to invest in my body,” Rose said in a statement, “and this time off is crucial for me to return to peak performance.”

The decision means Rose will skip the European Tour’s three-tournament Race to Dubai playoffs, as well as the British Masters and WGC-HSBC Champions. Rose is currently 11th in world rankings.
