On Thursday night, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was named the 2025 NFL MVP. Though Allen and the Bills came up short in their bid to win the franchise’s first Super Bowl this season, the NFL’s most prestigious on-field accolade was yet another highwater mark for the former first-round pick, who has ascended from project to superstar during his seven seasons in the league.

Perhaps most impressive, however, is that Allen has done all this—including 41 total touchdowns and just 8 turnovers in 2025—while completely, hopelessly hooked on golf. We’ve reported on Allen’s affliction in the past, from his Phil Mickelson Halloween costume to his A-list Pine Valley outings to his patron “grand slam,” but this story from Golfer’s Journal’s Casey Bannon about spending a day with Allen at Sea Island last year sums all of that up and then some. Check it out.

Full transcript below for those of you wisely avoiding X these days:

“Quick golf story about this guy. I played Sea Island with him last offseason and witnessed a sickness like I’ve never seen before:

– Played 18 in the morning

– Raced to UPS to sign a restructured contract

– Another 18 in the afternoon

– Hit balls until 1 am (the King Cottage has a private range)

– Was back on the range next day at 7 am -Said his driver was “too spinny.” Walked over to the performance center and did a driver fitting at 8 am

– Drove straight to Ohoopee for 36 more

Also, a truly good guy. Tipped all the staff, took care of everyone and never once talked about football or himself. MVP.”

Clearly Josh Allen has a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell golf. According to Bannon’s story, Allen is no hobbyist either. He seemingly treats his golf game with the same professional intensity as football, playing 72 holes in the span of 48 hours, grinding on the range until well after midnight and making last-second driver adjustments as if he was searching for that last little something heading into the year’s final major.

Our favorite anecdote, though, is Allen rushing to UPS between rounds to sign a restructured contract as if it were an afterthought—a mundane chore coming between him and his beloved pastime. We don’t know the exact timing of this story, but according to Spotrac, last summer the Bills restructured Allen’s contract to move $30 million of his future money forward, effectively doubling his 2024 salary from $30 million to $60 million actual U.S. dollars … and the guy still had to be dragged away from the course to sign the deal. That’s commitment.

Needless to say, if you’re a looking for a bandwagon to jump on in 2025, you could do a lot worse than Allen’s Buffalo Bills. Sure, they’ll probably end up breaking your heart, but that’s nothing new to us golfers.
