Made-for-TV golf exhibitions are hotter than “Hot Ones” right now. It seems like every few weeks we get some new variation on the primetime pro-am format, from The Match to Grass League to TGL to whatever this LIV vs. PGA Tour showdown will be. Now two of the most famous weekend warriors in golf are getting in on the action.
On Thursday, Jimmy Fallon and DJ Khaled officially announced the ‘Cardigan Classic,’ a mano y mano battle that seeks to squash their long-running (and mostly good natured) golf rivalry.
Jimmy and @djkhaled go head-to-head in a fast-paced, four-hole golf challenge in Lake Tahoe at @NBC’s @ACChampionship! Tune in Friday, September 13 at 11:35/10:35c on @NBC! #FallonTonight pic.twitter.com/MWPiTlPuFq

Fallon calls the Cardigan Classic “possibly the most intense athletic competition to ever air on television.” We have no doubt DJ Khaled actually feels that way, but what is it really? NBC explains.
“Presented by Ford, The Cardigan Classic: Fallon vs. Khaled is a fast-paced, four-hole golf match that takes place at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, home to the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament. The match takes place on two of Edgewood Tahoe’s signature golf holes – the popular par-3 17th and the par-5 18th – with Lake Tahoe serving as the backdrop. At stake for the winner: a custom-made red Cardigan and bragging rights.”
That doesn’t clear up any lingering questions about format, scoring or, you know, why this exists at all other than to pat a few big egos on the back, but if you remain curious, make sure to tune in on Friday, September 13th at 11:35 p.m. ET. Or better yet, get some sleep and stream it the next day Peacock.
