An 18-hole shootout-style match between Queenslanders Jason Day and Cameron Smith could lure Day back to his home state for the first time in six years.

As reported by Jim Tucker in the Courier-Mail, the still-to-be-confirmed concept would see the pair facing off at Royal Queensland Golf Club in late November. Smith has already confirmed he is more than eager to participate; the remaining piece in the puzzle is Day’s endorsement. He has indicated plans to play in either the Australian Open or Australian PGA during the same time, making it feasible if the right date can be worked out.

“I’m in … I like the idea a lot and it would be great to play a mate like Jason in Queensland,” said Smith, who is a member at Royal Queensland.

Day was meant to play a similar style match against Rory McIlroy for charity in the Philippines late last year before that concept fell over and injury forced Day to withdraw all his travels plans – including to Australia.
