On Thursday at Bay Hill, Luke List make a highlight-reel birdie at the par-4 11th, rolling up his pants, choking up on the club and drawing a beauty back onto the putting surface for a good look, which he drained. At the time it seemed unlikely we would see a better circle on the scorecard all weekend.

We were wrong. We were oh so very wrong.

On Friday, Hideki Matsuyama ended up with List’s lie on steroids after his tee shot on the par-4 3rd hole. But instead relying on mortal means of escape like taking off his shoes and socks, the 2018 Masters champion simply walked on water instead, nearly holing his shot for eagle in the process.

Given Matsuyama’s surreal footing, the thigh-high height of his lie and the looming possibility of hooking it around his body and back into the drink, this may go down as one of the most underrated shots we’ll see all year. Making things even sweeter, Matsuyama walked in the four-foot comebacker for birdie.

After a recent win at The Genesis Invitational and near the top of the leaderboard again at Bay Hill, Matsuyama finally seems to be finding his game again. A second green jacket in a month’s time would still constitute a miracle, but after walking on water, anything is possible.
