Although it’s a week later than ususal, the PGA Tour is back in Hawaii to start its season.
Sadly, we skipped Kapalua but the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club is quite a nice place to shake off rust and ease into the year. The strong field is playing for $9.1 million with the winner taking home $1.638 for a victory.
Canadian Nick Taylor is back to defend his title from a year ago and is looking to become the first back-to-back winner here since Jimmy Walker in 2014-15. Jordan Spieth is here for the first time in three years. He finished third at Waialae in 2017.

Russell Henley (5), J.J. Spaun (6), Robert MacIntyre (7) and Ben Griffin (8) are the four top-10 ranked players competing this week. All four men played on the U.S. Ryder Cup team last year and their captain, Keegan Bradley, is playing this week too. He’s ranked 14th in the world.
Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa are other notable names competing in Hawaii. The side competition starts this week, the Aon Swing 5, where players can earn points to elevate themselves into playing in some of the tour’s signature events.
Here’s the breakdown of what each player will earn this week who makes the cut. Check back here Sunday for updates shortly after play is complete.
