The PGA Tour has rolled onto Week 2 of the season and remains in Hawaii, moving from Maui over to Honolulu for the Sony Open. Although this week is the first full-field event of the year, after 59 competed last week at The Sentry at Kapalua.
Sentry champion Chris Kirk is in the field, attempting to win in consecutive week. Only six players have won both Hawaii events to start the year. He finished in third place last year behind winner Si Woo Kim and Hayden Buckley, who missed a 12-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole to send the tournament into a playoff. Kim birdied 17 and 18 to shoot a second-consecutive weekend 64. Both men are in the field again this year.
Among the notables competing this week are Gary Woodland, who had brain surgery in September. Will Zalatoris played in the Hero World Challenge in December but has not played in a PGA Tour event since the Match Play 10 months ago. He had back surgery last week.
The 144 players are competing for an $8.3 million purse, with the winner taking home $1.494 million. Return after the completion of the event Sunday for updates.
