The LPGA is back in the states after a stint in Europe for a few big events. After a week off following the AIG Women’s British Open, they’re at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Oregon for the Standard Portland Classic. The field will be playing for the $2 million purse with the winner taking home $300,000 for a victory. Aki Iwai is the defending champion.
Four of the top-10 players in the world are competing, starting with World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul. Two-time major champion this year, Hawran Ryu (No. 3), is playing too.
There are 21 of 28 rookies participating, meaning it’s a prime position for some newbies to jump up and make a name for themselves. The three amateur exemptions include Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion Maria Jose Marin, NCAA individual champ Farah O’Keefe and Women’s British Amateur champion Valentine Delon.
Megha Ganne, Keleiya Romero and Jacinda Lee are sponsor invites.
Up next are the CPKC Women’s Open in Canada, the Fm Championship in Boston then the Solheim Cup in early September in the Netherlands.
Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.
