The LPGA is in Canada, so that means the country’s favorite daughter, Brooke Henderson, will make headlines no matter what she does this week at the CPKC Women’s Open. Last year she won her national championship by making three late birdies to shoot a final-round 67 and top Minjee Lee by a shot.

Henderson (No. 11) and Nelly Korda (No. 1) are two of 14 players ranked inside the top 25 competing this week for the $2.75 million purse with the winner taking home $412,500 at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton. In all, there are 15 Canadians playing.

Korda, of course, has won four times this year, including two major championships. But she hasn’t won since the U.S. Women’s Open in early June. Kiara Romero is one of the 16 sponsor invites. She was the World No. 1 amateur and earned enough points this summer to turn professional, which she did, leaving the University of Oregon early.

One other note—the U.S. Solheim Cup team will be finalized after the tournament. Six of seven automatic spots have already been solidified and two more will be filled from the women’s world rankings. Captain Angela Stanford will then announce her captain’s picks. The European team announced its roster on August 3.
