The PGA Tour moved from the rain at Pebble Beach to the rain in Arizona. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was shortened to 54 holes last week because of terrible weather in the area for an extended time. Wyndham Clark was awarded the champion, claiming his third PGA Tour victory.
This week at the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale hasn’t started great either, with hail pelting the course during Wednesday’s practice round and more rain and wind causing long delays on Thursday during the first round.
But enough about Mother Nature, who people hope does not stick around for the weekend. It’d be ideal for the tournament to finish in time Sunday, just before kickoff of the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

First things first. Scottie Scheffler is back to defend his title and is attempting to become the first player since Steve Stricker in 2009-11 to win the same PGA Tour event three straight times. Even Tiger Woods never accomplished that feat. Justin Thomas has designs to rebound from a poor season in 2023 and is in Scottsdale coming off consecutive top-10 finishes. Clark is back in action off his victory, joining Scheffler, Max Homa, Matt Fitzpatrick and Brian Harman and the top-10 ranked players in the field.
The 132-player field is competing for the $8.8 million dollar purse. The winner will take home $1.584 for a victory. Carl Yuan withdrew after a first-round 77 and Lucas Glover completely missed his tee time on Thursday but was replaced in the field by Ryo Hisatsune.
