Harold Varner III was arrested for driving while impaired (DWI) Thursday night, according to WBTV in Charlotte.

The station reported jail and court records showing the LIV golfer was put into custody around 7:30pm after registering a BAC (blood alcohol concentration)  of .16 – twice the legal limit – during a breathalyser test.

The Charlotte resident was driving on Providence Road in south Charlotte “while subject to an impairing substance” when he was pulled over.

According to WBTV, Varner was released from Mecklenburg Jail after posting $500 bond. The 33-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on January 19.

The popular pro played collegiately at East Carolina and on the PGA Tour until leaving for LIV Golf in 2022. He won his first LIV event in Washington DC in May.

Varner finished seventh in the 2023 LIV standings as a member of Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats. He was traded to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces earlier this month.
