LeBron James is used to being heckled during road games throughout his legendary NBA career, but Wednesday night was probably a first. That’s because he was hearing it about his . . . Handicap Index. Or, rather, his lack thereof a Handicap Index.
What shouldn’t be surprising is who was doing the heckling. That would be Yip Strickler, golf’s “Sandbagger Sheriff,” who I profiled for Golf Digest last year. As Yip notes in his Twitter bio, he’s an “Independent journalist investigating handicaps and tournaments at prestigious private golfing clubs.” And no one is above the law when it comes to net golf. Not even King James.

So what’s Yip’s problem with the four-time NBA champ? Well, he hasn’t been posting his scores to the GHIN app. At all.
We’ve seen plenty of LeBron playing golf over the past couple years as the superstar has picked up the game, but he is still to set up an official Handicap Index. And Yip let him know about it from a courtside seat during the Sixers’ win over the Pistons in Detroit. Have a look and listen:

I love LeBron, heck, WE love LeBron at Golf Digest now that he’s a full-fledged golfer who even recently launched his own YouTube golf channel. But Yip has a point here.
In an interview with GQ last fall, James estimated he’s a “20, 25 something like that.” But his “chief of staff” interjected to say he’s more like a 14 or 15. And, again, that was over a year ago.
In any event, it’s time to get an official handicap, LeBron. And from a fellow net golfer, a big thank you for your service to Yip.
