Golf fans have rallied successfully to save Melbourne’s Albert Park Golf Course.

Parks Victoria was swamped by community opposition to a move to cut the picturesque course to just nine holes with angry golfers leading the charge.

Petitions and presentations have effectively forced the Victorian Government to leave the popular course intact.

There had been plans to turn part of the precinct into a “mini golf” course for children and a major events space.

Golf Victoria chief executive Simon Brookhouse said it was a win “now and in the future”.

“The future of the 18-hole golf course at Albert Park is secure,” Brookhouse told the Herald Sun.
