That may sound like a headline from The Onion, but unfortunately it’s not a parody. On Tuesday evening, golfers at Fox Den Golf Course in the Akron suburb of Stow, Oh. had their rounds interrupted by a speeding minivan pursued by a small convoy of police cruisers. Though the golfers didn’t know it as they captured the wild footage on their phones, the van was piloted by 39-year-old murder suspect Julius Edwards, who had left a string of damage, carjackings and injuries in his wake before crossing the course.

It all began around 3:20 p.m. when local police received a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert for Edwards, a suspect in the stabbing of his girlfriend in nearby Canton. Around 7:30 p.m., cameras located Edwards’ gray Kia Telluride. Police attempted to stop Edwards, who fled, leading police on the first of two car chases that ended when Edwards ran a red light and collided with traffic in what the Ohio State Highway Patrol described as “serious crash that left multiple people injured.”
Edwards then took off on foot, exchanging gunfire with a pursing officer before disappearing into the nearby woods. Less than an hour later, Edwards carjacked a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, sparking another pursuit that eventually made its way across Fox Den Golf Course as shocked golfers captured the wild scene on video.

“We were actually on the 18th hole, so we were right by the street. I heard all the commotion coming up, and then I saw the van come down the road with six or eight cruisers. I was like, ‘Holy cow!’” golfer Ben Hyle told News 5 Cleveland.
“He turned into the parking lot, and I thought it was gonna be over. I thought he was gonna surrender or something, and then he just ripped it right through. That’s when I picked up my phone and started recording.”
In tall golf tale for the ages, Hyle remarked that he was about to make birdie on his final hole of the evening but police told everyone to clear the course for safety reasons.
Whether that’s true, we may never know, but thankfully Edwards was apprehended a short while later when an officer parked his cruiser in his path, leaping from the vehicle as Edwards struck it, flipping it onto its roof.
Edwards was wanted in connection with the stabbing of his 33-year-old girlfriend in Canton early Tuesday morning. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the civilians and police officers injured in the pursuit of Edwards are all expected to recover.
