We haven’t heard too much from Eddie Pepperell lately. Not so long ago, Pepperell was an up-and-coming pro on the DP World Tour and a regular name on these pages thanks to his consistently amusing (and often controversial) social-media persona. As his game has slipped, however, so has his Twitter/X activity and slowly but surely ol’ Eddie has been replaced by fellow internet funny men like Max Homa and Michael Kim.

On Tuesday, however, news broke that LIV Golf had once again been denied Official World Golf Ranking points and that was enough to bring Pepperell—a steadfast LIV sceptic—out of retirement with this self-deprecating knee-slapper. Check it out.

Good to have you back, Eddie. The narrative surrounding this OWGR decision is significantly different than the last time LIV Golf was denied all-important ranking eligibility. Most have become more sympathetic to the plight of LIV golfers as time has gone on, but you still have to chuckle at Pepperell’s zinger, in large part because he took a shot at himself in the process.

The punchline here, for those that need it explained, is that Pepperell, despite being a member of the DP World Tour, is also not earning OWGR points… because of his play. After a T-84 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last weekend, Pepperell has fallen all the way to 216th in the world ranking after peaking at 32nd a few short years ago. Like this week’s ruling for LIV, that’s a tough pill to swallow for Pepperell, but at least he can laugh about it.
