DP World Tour pro Joakim Lagergren is not playing in the Waste Management Phoenix Open this week at TPC Scottsdale. But, in honour of the PGA Tour’s rowdiest event, the 34-year-old Swede and his caddie Jesse Karlsson reenacted one of the most famous moments in WMPO history from 13,000 kilometres away.
Lagergren, who opened with a five-under 67 at the Qatar Masters, made the turn in four-under in his second round but appeared to be in some serious trouble at the par-4 second, his 11th hole of the day. His drive missed well left of the fairway and found the native area, where he came across all sorts of boulder issues.

No matter, as Lagergren and Karlsson got to work, removing a number of “loose impediments” to clear a path for Lagergren to swing. It was well worth the effort, though my back is hurting just watching it:

For those wondering, yes, this is all within the rules. Just like it was at Scottsdale in 1999, when Tiger Woods ran into a similar issue at the 13th hole. The only difference between Tiger’s situation and Lagergren’s is that Tiger had plenty of help:
Such is life when your name is Tiger Woods.
Lagergren wound up saving par after the incredible recovery shot, then finished with a bogey-free, six-under 66, which currently has him one behind leader Patrick Reed heading into the weekend.
