How old were you when you first broke par? Chances are, it hasn’t happened yet. In fact, for the majority of golfers, it never will (at least using gross scoring). The same can’t be said for the DP World Tour’s best and brightest, however. This week, they were asked how old they were when they first shattered golf’s glass ceiling, and the answers—especially from one legend—were downright humbling. Check it out.

Barn Rat! Most of the replies cluster around the early to mid-teens, when young golfers’ frames start to catch up to the scale of the courses they’re playing. Four-time DP World Tour winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat beat them all to the punch, however, clocking his first sub-par round at the age of nine! That’s right, while the rest of us were building Legos and drinking Hawaiian Punch until we puked, the Thai reincarnation of John Daly was taking money from grown men three times his age on the golf course. (DISCLAIMER: We don’t know if Aphibarnrat was actually gambling at the age of nine, but we can only assume.)
As you watch this video and hear pros recall the first of the countless times they’ve broken par in their career, try not to feel too bad. If anything, this is proof that there simply is no substitute—not practice, not dedication, not time and money—for natural ability. You simply don’t get that good that fast without it. But don’t take our word for it. Just ask the Barn Rat.
