True to form, US President Donald Trump made himself the main character at Medinah on Sunday. He orchestrated an Air Force One flyover that our colleagues onsite said literally “rattled the media centre.”
A short while later, his walk out at the first tee drew a chorus of cheers and jeers from the crowd, before he delivered a brief speech and stepped back to greet each player as they arrived for their matches. That’s when the real fun began, as the leader of the free world took the opportunity to engage in a bit gamesmanship with International elder statesman Adam Scott. Check it out.

The ol’ tug of war is one President Trump’s favourite moves. He’s used it on everyone from political adversaries to fellow world leaders over the years in an effort to establish dominance. As we wrote on Friday after Scott buried a long birdie putt to silence a heckler, however, if you’re going to come at Adam Scott, you better dot your Ts and cross your Is. The Aussie has the looks, the style and, most importantly, the skill to hang against just about any opposition. He’s has effortlessly avoided controversy throughout his career and rarely lets emotions get the best of him. If you’re trying to fluster an International player, may we suggest Nico Echavarria?
Jokes aside, the US team needs all the help they can get as they attempt to come back from a three-point deficit and avoid an embarrassing loss on home soil to what looked to be one the weakest International squads ever on paper. If that means calling in a few favours with the President, then so be it.
