Golf Australia has confirmed golf will resume in Melbourne from Wednesday, September 29.

In a statement on their website, Golf Australia says, “We are pleased that the Victorian Government has now confirmed that on Wednesday, September 29, Victoria will reach the 80 percent first dose vaccination target enabling the resumption of golf in metropolitan Melbourne.

“There will be further details released on club/facility operations that will be dependent upon the Chief Health Officer’s directives, and we will communicate these as soon as this information becomes available.”

Operations advice for metropolitan Melbourne is as follows:

  • From Wednesday, September 29, golf clubs and facilities in metropolitan Melbourne can reopen;
  • Play must be in groups of two (for players who have received one or no vaccine doses);
  • Play can be conducted in groups of four for players who are fully vaccinated (from a maximum of two households);
  • Players must reside within 15km of the club/facility that they are playing at;
  • Group coaching can take place with two people (for participants who have received one or no vaccine doses), or with up to five people (if all participants are fully vaccinated). The coach is excluded from these numbers, but must be fully vaccinated to conduct a session with more than two participants;
  • Masks must be worn at all times unless there is a medical reason not to do so. This includes while playing golf;
  • All staff, members and visitors must check in using the QR service.

“Further changes are scheduled for the 70 percent second dose vaccination target,” adds Golf Australia. “We will communicate more information on the implementation of these changes once confirmed by government and closer to the date.”

Operations advice for regional Victoria is as follows:

“The Victorian government has announced that the Local Government areas of Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast will come out of lockdown at 11:59pm tonight. Restrictions for Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast will align with those in place across the rest of regional Victoria.”

Mitchell Shire will remain in lockdown at this time.
