It’s the news Melbourne golfers have been patiently waiting for: golf will be once again permitted under a relaxed set of coronavirus restrictions that will kick in from midnight.

The good news comes after the Andrews Government announced Sunday that Melbourne’s travel radius will be expanded to 25 kilometres and people will be able to leave their homes for as long as they like.

Golf courses, along with tennis courts, skate parks and other outdoor settings can reopen from tomorrow.

The sport’s governing body confirmed the good news via its website:

“Golf Australia is pleased to inform players, clubs and facilities that golf will return as a permitted activity in metropolitan Melbourne from tomorrow.

“Golf Australia is actively seeking further clarification from the Victorian Government on all aspects relating to this return, particularly around competition golf, and once received we will notify golf clubs and facilities on a Return to Play plan as soon as we can.

“We thank everyone impacted for their patience and cooperation during this time and we look forward to Melburnians returning to the game they love.”

It’s understood the two-hour time limit for exercise and socialising will be also be scrapped from Monday.

Golfers are advised to regularly check Golf Australia’s State Specific Directives page at www.golf.org.au/directives for the most up-to-date information on state government protocols for playing of golf.
