After an eight-shot “World No. 1 being the World No. 1” victory last year, Scottie Scheffler returns as the defending champion/leader-in-the-clubhouse for this week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The Texas event is back at TPC Craig Ranch after an offseason renovation led by former pro Lanny Wadkins. And many are hoping the course will have a bit more teeth to it after Scheffler tied the PGA Tour’s all-time 72-hole scoring record a year ago at 31 under par.
In addition to Scheffler, we’ll see a handful of other top-50-ranked pros, such as Si Woo Kim and Jordan Spieth, along with five-time major champ Brooks Koepka, still looking for his first win after returning to the PGA Tour. Last week’s major champ, Aaron Rai, was originally in the field, but he’s understandably sitting out this week.

TPC Craig Ranch, located in the Dallas suburb of McKinney, is a Tom Weiskopf design that plays among gently rolling hills and on the limestone banks of Rowlett Creek, which crosses the course 14 times. In 2020, the course signed a five-year agreement to host the PGA Tour’s AT&T Byron Nelson.

Last year’s tournament featured a dominant Scheffler winning for his first of six titles in 2025 and going wire-to-wire for his career first stroke-play tour win in his home state of Texas. He shot rounds of 61-63-66-63 and opened the door for two major wins and a fourth-straight player-of-the-year award. Runner-up Erik van Rooyen shot a very solid 23-under 261 … and finished eight shots back.
This week’s winner will receive a $1.854 million cut of the $10.3 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points.
