After a quick sojourn to Medinah for a nerve-racking but ultimately victorious Presidents Cup, Jackson Koivun will lead the charge as the PGA Tour returns to Black Desert Resort for the PGA Tour’s Bank of Utah Championship. This will be the third year of the event, with Matt McCarty and Michael Brennan winning by three and four strokes, respectively, in Utah.
The 21-year-old Koivun is one of many notables teeing it up this week, including Utah native Tony Finau and Billy Horschel sitting at No. 100 and 101 on the FedEx Cup points bubble, plus Presidents Cup competitors Nick Taylor and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. Recent International assistant captain Taylor Pendrith is in the field, along with young stars Blades Brown, Ben James, David Ford and Luke Clanton. Max Homa, Maverick McNealy and Rasmus Højgaard are all looking for FedEx Cup points as well to secure their status in 2027.

Black Desert Resort in the arid desert of southern Utah, surrounded by horizons of red rock mountains, was the last golf course Tom Weiskopf was involved in building (he was diagnosed with cancer as construction was beginning). Opened in 2023, the public course is a stunning juxtaposition of wavy fairways chiseled out of fields of black lava rock that had to be blasted into golf formations. Phil Smith, Weiskopf’s longtime design partner, completed the visually arresting design that hosted the PGA Tour’s new Black Desert Championship in the fall of 2024—the first tour event in Utah in more than 60 years—and an LPGA event in 2025. Black Desert Resort is located outside the golf-rich area of St. George, Utah.

In 2025, Brennan turned a sponsor’s exemption into his first PGA Tour win. In his first pro start, Brennan shot a five-under 66 on Sunday to hold off runner-up Rico Hoey and the rest of the field. And it wasn’t a fluke win; he would later go on to win the Wyndham Championship 10 months later
This week’s winner will receive a $1.08 million cut of the $9 million purse.
