Our PGA Championship has a curious habit of making lightning strike twice.
Since the Australian PGA Championship was first played in 1905, 14 players have successfully defended their title, turning a one-off victory into a two-year reign. From Dan Soutar’s three-peat in the tournament’s infancy to Cameron Smith’s repeat in 2018, there has been an oddly persistent knack for champions to do it all over again. What’s more, there have been numerous cases of players winning a second title within a three-year span. No pressure, (2025 champion) David Puig!
