World No.1 Jordan Spieth will put his title defence on the line early on day one of the Emirates Australian Open.

Spieth will play alongside 2010 champion Geoff Ogilvy and 1997 champion Lee Westwood in one of several marquee matches announced today at The Australian Golf Club.

Tournament director Trevor Herden said the tremendous depth of the field meant he’d been able to build several other eye-catching groups.

Spieth’s group will be off the 10th tee at 7.05am Thursday.

Former world No.1 and 2009 champion Adam Scott is off the 1st tee alongside 2006 champion John Senden and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts in a group featuring three of the sweetest ball-strikers in world golf.

That match is one of the main afternoon groups and will hit off  at 12.10pm.

“We are excited to have such depth – it really means we have so many more great groups for people to follow along with,” Herden said.

“There’s something for all golf fans this week.”
