Adam Scott leads the Australian tilt at the Genesis Invitational after an opening round 69 left him two under and five shots behind co-leaders, Max Homa and Keith Mitchell (64, seven under).

After making the turn at one under, the two-time Genesis Invitational winner Scott had a mixed bag of a back nine. Three birdies and two bogeys held Scott back from making a great score, but the 42-year-old is well in the mix.

Victorian Lucas Herbert was one back with a 70 leaving him at one under. Former world No.1 Jason Day shot a 72 to be one over, while Sydney native Cameron Davis struggle to a 77 and a six-over total.
