ERIN, Wis. — Amari Avery was playing the second round of the U.S. Women’s Open with borrowed clubs on Friday. This time, it wasn’t an airline that lost her golf clubs.

It was an accident that left Avery without her clubs. According to Paige Mackenzie of Golf Channel, Avery’s boyfriend, USC golfer Gavin Aurilia, accidentally took her clubs as he was traveling back to Los Angeles on Friday. Mackenzie reported that the two have identical travel bags for their clubs.

Avery, a former USC golfer, borrowed the clubs of Gabriela Ruffles, another former USC golfer, after Ruffles already had completed her round. Mackenzie also reported on the broadcast that there was an attempted break-in at the rental house Avery was staying at, so she moved to a hotel.

Despite the chaotic day, Avery played well. She was one-under before dangerous weather suspended play Friday evening. Play later resumed.

Aurilia’s mom was scheduled to be on a flight to Wisconsin Friday with Avery’s clubs. Those clubs will have made quite a travel day on Friday.
