AimPoint made headlines again over the weekend, this time on the LPGA when A Lim Kim was spotted on television using the routine for a putt that was only about 18 inches long.
Over the past couple weeks it’s come up several times, first when Lucas Glover suggested the popular method should be banned on the PGA Tour because he believes it’s one of the elements that slows play down. Slow play has always been a highly debated topic on the PGA Tour but was heightened a few weeks ago when CBS Sports’ Dottie Pepper hammered the length of rounds at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Collin Morikawa responded to Glover’s comments, throwing shade by saying that if AimPoint is banned then long putters should be too. Glover uses a long putter.

On Saturday, during the third round of the Honda LPGA Thailand television cameras showed A Lim Kim’s putt for birdie on the par-3 fourth hole at Siam Country Club. The ball rolled a little more than a foot past the hole. Kim, winner of the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, then stood over the ball and used the AimPoint method.
The still photo is a bad look for sure. And television producers clearly were trying to get away from showing the scene, but in doing so, they didn’t do Kim any favours. Watch closely in the video below and you’ll see that she was moving off the ball to go back into her putting stance, meaning that she only used the routine for a few seconds.
I'm anti-AimPoint. It's a pace of play nightmare and it needs to go. That being said, watch the video and you can see A Lim step off to tap it in almost immediately before the video cuts away. Yes, it looks ridiculous, but there are far more egregious AimPoint examples out there https://t.co/RqEowsijg6 pic.twitter.com/BYCXgGPKWw

Still, social media went nuts.
Kim shot 66 in that third round and followed with a final-round 68 to shoot 16-under-par for the week and finish in sixth place.
