It was one of the best viral golf moments of the year, and it keeps living on, getting better and better.
Canadian Adam Hadwin had social media crying with laughter last week when he got so frustrated on his way to a missed cut at the Valspar Championship that he gripped his wedge like a bat and slammed it into the ground, not knowing that it’d smash straight down on a sprinkler head and create an unexpected shower.

The scene—Hadwin going back to try to fix the sprinkler and then standing there, embarrassed when nothing helped—was truly hilarious for all except the golfer. Of course, it also drew a response from his wife, Jessica, the sharp social-media mavin, who posted in a Skratch blog, “On the 10th hole, it appears Adam was in the vicinity of some sort of sprinkler malfunction … ” Jessica also posted a faux work safety sign on her X account, “O Days Since Last Incident.”
It turns out, the story has a feel-good ending. The Hadwins didn’t publicise it first, but according to an X post on Friday by Ryan Stewart, the director of agronomy at the Innisbrook Resort, the couple paid for the sprinkler to be fixed and also bought the entire agronomy crew lunch from Chipotle. The Valspar tournament’s X account also mentioned that Adam did a video for the staff.
A big thank you to Adam Hadwin @jessicahadwin for paying for that sprinkler head and buying our staff lunch. That was a great touch and our staff loved it. Thank you again pic.twitter.com/1CigKSYyit

Honestly, that scene looks like any golf media centre in the country when they put out the free food. Clearly, the Hadwins didn’t go light on the grub. A class move, and, hopefully, the man of the house learned a humbling lesson.
