As far as a summer sports sagas go, Aaron Rodgers’ will-he, won’t-he flirtation with the Pittsburgh Steelers has failed to move the needle. We’ve been here before with the Rodgers, who. much like his Green Bay predecessor Brett Favre, has cried “retirement!” one too many times for anyone to care. Plus, what we’re really talking about is a league-average QB joining a league-average team. If that gets your juices flowing, you live west of Williamsport and east of Youngstown. Just wake the rest of us up when it’s over.
Still, the Rodgers-Steelers courtship took a strange, golf-tinged turn this weekend when Andrew Fillipponi reported that Rodgers—an avid golfer—had become the latest member of Nevillewood Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed gem in the heart of suburban Pittsburgh.

But just like everything else in this ongoing odyssey, the smoking gun misfired. A few hours later, Nevillewood club president Wayne Chiurazzi refuted the report to local KDKA sports anchor Rich Walsh, who took to X to throw cold water on the whole thing.

Gotta love football, amirite? The PGA Championship gets underway off in a matter of days, the NBA and Stanley Cup Playoffs are raging and the baseball season is in full swing. Yet everyone has gone full Spooky Mulder about whether or not a 41-year-old quarterback has joined a Western Pa. country club. We’ll just have to wait and see if Fillipponi’s report turns out to be true, but one thing is certain:
Rodgers signing with Nevillewood—the 37th best course in the state of Pennsylvania according to Golf Digest’s most recent rankings—would be a hell of a lot smarter than joining the Jets.
