Only two years old and yet already it’s the only New Zealand golf course to host an LPGA tournament. It’s been a remarkably fast start to the life and times of Windross Farm Golf Course, which landed in 16th place in our inaugural ranking of New Zealand’s Top 50 Courses last month.

Anyone who witnessed the elements that almost blew away the field at the 2017 New Zealand Women’s Open would know it’s a layout where it pays to keep your wits about you. Eventual winner Brooke Henderson braved wicked weather and a tough course, with the Canadian enduring both before ultimately prevailing by five strokes.

The work of Brett Thompson and golf course consultant Phil Tataurangi, Windross is located on a former potato farm south-east of the Auckland CBD. The inland links course is unlike anything else seen around the city, the layout characterised by subtle mounding, width off the tee and detailed shaping around the greens.
