If you’re like us, you’re starting to get Georgia on your mind. But before we travel to Augusta National and the Masters, the PGA Tour makes a two-week visit to Texas, beginning with this week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Min Woo Lee will be back to defend his first PGA Tour title, but he’ll have to get by long-bomber Chris Gotterup and a steadily improving Brooks Koepka, who helped Tom Doak with the most recent re-design of the course. Sahith Theegala will also tee off in Houston this week, despite competing in the TGL finals on Monday and Tuesday. Scottie Scheffler was in the field, but WD’d on Tuesday with his second child on the way. Looks like Bennett Scheffler will have a new four-ball partner.
A year ago when Lee won the title at Memorial Park, he outpaced Scheffler and Gary Woodland by one stroke, ultimately becoming the eighth golfer to record his inaugural win at this event. The Aussie set a 72-hole record at the tournament, with a 20-under 260, and needed every shot of it to hold off Woodland’s Sunday eight-under 62.
This week’s winner will receive a $1.782 million cut of the $9.9 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points. If he’s not in the Masters field already, he also earns a invite to Augusta.

Previous Next Pause Play false Public Memorial Park Golf Course Houston, TX 3.9 12 Panelists A significant renovation was completed by Tom Doak (in collaboration with Brooks Koepka) to transform the old municipal course at Memorial Park—which hosted the first Houston Open in 1947 and then again from 1951 through 1965—into a layout worthy of being a PGA Tour venue. Originally built in 1912 at a hospital near Camp Logan for recovering soldiers to use, architect John Bredemus redesigned the course in 1935 and added a second nine. Now with signature Doak green complexes and tour-level conditioning, Memorial Park is once again a must-play in the state and averages 60,000 rounds a year.
