You can’t put a price on a great day of golf, but that doesn’t mean it’s free. Greens fees, travel expenses, a fresh sleeve of balls (or three) and, of course, that $7 sandwich at the turn. It all adds up. In life’s bank account, you might be making a deposit, but in your actual bank account, golf can be a hefty withdrawal.

However, one Ohio golfer has come out WAY ahead after a recent golf trip to Michigan where he purchased a winning Powerball lottery ticket worth $US150,000.

According to Local 4 WDIV Detroit, 68-year-old Donovan Reynolds was hitting the links in Michigan when he purchased a Powerball ticket at Big Daddy’s Truck Stop (yes, really) in Ottawa Lake, about 60 kilometres south of Ann Arbor. Reynolds’ ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball number to win $US50,000 on the July 23rd drawing. Due to the Power Play in effect, though, the prize was then tripled to $US150,000 ($A230,000).

“I typically play Powerball in Ohio, but I was in Michigan for the day golfing, so I bought my ticket while I was here,” Reynolds told the Michigan Lottery. “I checked the winning numbers the next day and froze when I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball. I was stunned! I have been playing these numbers for a while and they finally paid off.”

Reynolds says he plans to use to money for his daughter’s college fund, which is a smart move, but we hope he treats himself to a new driver as well. After all, it’s not everyday you win the lottery.
