British Open 2025: The internet is lighting up Kevin Kisner for his take on the Wyndham Clark/Oakmont situation

NBC analyst Kevin Kisner had a rather interesting take on the Wyndham Clark vs. the Oakmont locker room situation that continues to stay in the news. And the internet is lighting him up for it.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Oakmont Country Club had suspended Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, for damaging the locker room during the week of the national championship last month. Clark missed the cut in Pittsburgh, his fourth missed cut in the last seven major championships. He didn’t apologize until the following week at the Travelers Championship, where he met with reporters after an opening round 64. He tied for 17th that week but missed the cut in his next event, the Rocket Classic.

But Clark has righted the ship over the last two weeks, tying for 11th at the Genesis Scottish Open and staging a remarkable comeback at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush. After opening with a five-over 76 on Thursday, Clark played the remaining 54 holes in 16-under par, which may secure his second career top-five in a major championship. As he cleaned up his par on the 72nd hole Sunday, NBC’s Dan Hicks and Kisner discussed the “unfortunate incident” at Oakmont, which is when Kisner dished his head-scratching view on the matter:

“I’m not sure anybody in the situation handled it properly,” said Kisner. “Wyndham probably could have nipped that in the bud with an earlier, or justifiable, statement, but locker rooms are supposed to be sacred. Not sure how that picture got out, USGA can help with that. I think if everyone just sat at a table face to face, that situation could go away pretty quickly.”

Clark, who denied requests to speak with the media on Saturday, did speak after Sunday’s final round.

“So obviously I feel terrible with what happened,” Clark said. “I’m doing anything I can to try to remedy the situation. We’re trying to keep it private between Oakmont, myself and the USGA. I’m just happy we have a pathway moving forward, and like you said, I’m hoping we can get past this and move on and hope there’s no ill-will towards me and Oakmont.”

Clark added he was hoping the whole situation would be kept private, and that it was strange that it’s not been. “I’ll just leave it at that,” he said.
