It’s a well-known fact that golf and spouses make for awkward bedfellows. Many significant others embrace their partner’s hobbies—golf or otherwise—and welcome the free time it affords them, but the stereotype is quite the opposite, and sometimes stereotypes exist for a reason.

Enter this Reddit user, who posted a wild series of messages he received from his golf buddy’s spouse to the online forum this week. We’ve seen and heard of many P.O.’d partners over the years, but this is a whole new level of hater.

Has anyone else ever gotten a message like this from their friend’s spouse? Gosh I feel like such a sl#t! byu/Hi_MyName-Is ingolf

Honestly this sucks for everybody involved. It sucks for the friend who is getting dragged into somebody else’s marital spat for simply having a friend. It sucks for “Conor,” who is in the doghouse for playing golf once a week. It sucks for the spouse, who is so desperate to assign blame for their failing relationship they’re pinning it on a game where you hit a little white ball around with a stick. Spoiler alert, folks. In situations like this, it’s almost never about golf. Golf is just easier to blame than yourself or your spouse.

But anyway, that’s enough marriage counseling for one day. Here’s hoping this golf love triangle works out their problems like adults and finds a compromise. If not, it sounds like this poster might have to start looking for a new golf buddy. Any takers?
