Much like the President of the United States, Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze has come under fire for playing too much golf on the job. After several high-profile decommits and a dismal 2024 campaign that saw the Tigers go 2-6 in SEC play and fail to qualify for a bowl game for just the fourth time this century, fans have seen enough of their coach on the golf course. Even Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin hopped on the dog pile earlier this month, mocking Freeze for his participation in a local Ryder Cup-style event at Sage Valley.
Great job Coach!! Game is on 🔥 https://t.co/EluxmXfkZc

Though Kiffin put the first points on the board, Freeze arrived ready for questions about his golf game at SEC Media Day on Tuesday, firing back at the Rebels’ rogue with a claim so bold it stopped us in our tracks. Take it away, coach.
Hugh Freeze was ready Tuesday for the golf questions and some of Lane Kiffin's social media barbs on the amount of golf Freeze has played this offseason. "Tell him I shot 66 eight times," Freeze said laughing.

EIGHT TIMES!? Sheesh. As impressive as that is, however, Freeze’s response only made Kiffin’s point for him. If we are to take Freeze at his word, then perhaps he is better suited for the Champions Tour than the SEC at this point in his life. If not, then he looks like the snake-oil salesman everyone says he is. Either way you cut it, it’s a lose-lose for the embattled Auburn coach.
Not that Freeze will mind too much. He’s slapping it around with boosters, breaking 70 once a week while getting paid $6.5 million to coach college football. Laugh all you want, Lane, but that sounds like a hell of summer to us.
