One of the many great things about the Internet Invitational is that’s it’s not live. That means by the time we get our taste of the drama, the players involved have already been living with it for months. Sometimes this is good, because it allows cooler heads to prevail … and sometimes this is good because it allows hard feelings to harden even further. Such is the case with Peter Finch and Jason Williams.
Finch, a YouTube golf star who has appeared at both Internet Invitationals, was elected as the Blue Team captain on first day of this year’s tournament. Shortly after, he drafted Williams, an NBA cult hero, to his team. At the time it was a popular pick, but it didn’t pan out for the fighting Finches, who were knocked out in a playoff a few hours later thanks in large part to the heroics of Grant Horvat and Big John.
On Tuesday, nearly three months after that wild evening at Big Cedar Lodge, Williams joined Barstool Sports’ Hoppin’ and Hollerin’ podcast to call out Finch and his leadership as Blue Team skipper.

He [Finch] came in and put our best two players out in the first match, our third and fourth best players out in the second match, our fifth and sixth players out in third match, and then our seventh and eighth best player out in the fourth match thinking we were gonna win that first four. If we didn’t win those first four, you got motherf—ers like me down there trying to carrying us across the finish line, and that ain’t happening.”
Williams even went a step farther, saying, “He [Finch] shouldn’t even be there next year!”
Finch, who seems like a pretty mild-mannered personality from the outside looking in, got wind of Williams’ comments, and fired back with a nearly perfect retort.

Dave Portnoy and Robby Berger, the two pillars of the Internet Invitational, chimed in as well. Portnoy scored it one-up for Finch while Berger had it at AS.

Whatever you think of the war of words, it’s worth revisiting a moment from the very first episode of this year’s Internet Invitational. Moments after Finch learned he was one of 16 captain nominees, he turned to the camera and said, “I not gonna be voting for me. It’s a terrible idea. Don’t put me in charge of anything. I’ll just crash it.”
That’s a pretty big smoking gun if you ask us, but it doesn’t fully absolve Williams. So at the end of the day, who was truly in the wrong? Finch for being a poor leader and strategist (according to Williams) or Williams being too stoned to help his team (according to Finch)? Perhaps this is the rare case when the answer is C. all of the above.
