Here’s one you don’t see every day. Or ever.

Japan’s Keita Nakajima had made five birdies and was four under par during the first round of the French Open in Paris when he completely whiffed on an approach shot while standing on the right side of the 15th fairway at Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Breteche.
In the video, you could vaguely hear a sound in the background—maybe a cough?—when the 25-year-old was at the top of his swing. He then unleashed and flinched, missing the ball completely while taking an awkward twist.
“What happened there,” one of the broadcasters asked.
“Goodness me,” another said.
The three commentators continued to discuss what they thought happened before showing a review of the situation.
“Was there a noise in the background,” Australian commentator Alison Whitaker asked. “We’ll be quiet and we’ll listen in.”
Does this count as a stroke?! 👀

Again, with a slight sound in the background, they were all still flummoxed.
“You can’t pull out of it for a cough, surely,” a commentator said. “He nearly skimmed the paint on the top. That’s bizarre.”
At the time it wasn’t clear whether there would be a penalty, or a stroke added to Nakajima’s score. There must be intent to hit the ball in order for one to be added.
One was not added, however, and Nakajima went on to make bogey on the 15th hole. He addressed the ball and eventually hit his approach, after staring off into the gallery for a few moments, and the ball ended in the front left greenside bunker. He blasted out to 25 feet (7.6m) and two-putted for a bogey 5.
Nakajima, winner of the Indian Open last year, is ranked 126th in the world. He shot four-under 67 and is tied for fourth place, three shots behind Marcus Armitage.
