It felt like there were more “shoeys” than shots at LIV Golf Adelaide this week, a telltale sign that the red-hot scoring was matched only by the celebratory mood of patrons flooding The Grange Golf Club on all three days of competition.

First it was special guest Aussie DJ Fisher chugging down a brew from a shoe. Then it was Open champion Cam Smith bowing to the peer pressure.

Of course, tournament winner Talor Gooch did the obligatory skol during his trophy presentation, much to the delight of the Aussie faithful.

But it was Ripper GC star Marc Leishman who did it best, farewelling the tournament in style with this sole-sipping performance on the tournament’s ‘watering hole’.

For any foreigners reading this, we still don’t know why ‘shoeys’ are a thing. Pouring a cold beverage into a shoe and drinking it would suggest we’re a few laces short of a double knot.

While Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo has been credited with starting this unique trend infiltrating Aussie sport, big ‘Leish’ gets a podium finish for this execution during competition.

This is golf but thirstier, folks!
