Brad Clifton from Australian Golf Digest visits Titleist HQ to take part in a professional golf ball fitting, exploring why choosing the right ball can be just as important – if not more important – than club fitting. Joined by Titleist’s Jay Seater, Brad learns that only 6% of golfers have ever been fit for their golf ball, despite the ball influencing every single shot. Using the Titleist ball fitting app combined with Trackman launch monitor data, the fitting process is completed in as few as 12 swings.
During the session, Brad tests Titleist’s premium golf ball lineup – Pro V1, Pro V1x, Pro V1x Left Dash and AVX – with the fitting focusing on key scoring metrics such as spin rate, flight height, landing angle and stopping power. The data reveals that while Brad had been playing Pro V1x based on feel, Pro V1 was actually the best-performing ball for his swing, delivering more optimal spin and control on iron and wedge shots. The experience highlights how assumptions about golf balls are often wrong – and why data-driven fitting can unlock better consistency, control and scoring performance.
