Of course, these types of things are all a matter of personal perspective. For those of you who attend sporting events where the F&B prices don’t burn a hole in your wallet, these Oakmont prices might seem a little ridiculous. As for those who frequent sporting events in Australia, or arenas like Madison Square Garden in New York City or stadiums like LA’s Sofi Stadium in the US, than these prices seem cheap.

Here’s a look:

Not proud to say that my eyes immediately darted to the “Beer & Seltzer” section of this menu, just because I like to compare them to what I have to deal with at, say, Yankee Stadium, where two Modelos ran me close to $US40 ($A61) at a recent Subway Series game. At Oakmont this week, I can get the exact same order for $US24 ($A36.8). A beer for $US11.95 ($A18.40) each at a major championship? That’s as reasonable as it gets in my eyes.

Then again, if you’re an Atlanta Falcons fan who can get a hot dog and a beer for $US7, these prices must seem insane. Again, it’s all personal perspective. If you compare these prices to the prices at Augusta National during Masters week, which is a bit unfair, then these seem exorbitant.

If you compare them to last year’s prices at Pinehurst, they’ve actually gone up a tick:

And here’s a look at prices from three years ago at the US Open at Brookline near Boston:

Ten dollar ($US) Bud Lights. Those must have been the days.

As for the food, you sort of have to expect to overpay for some mediocrity at an event such as this one. It is a major, after all. So far, the chatter on social media mostly revolves around the nearly $US14 ($A21) price tag for a White Claw:
