Train lead singer Pat Monahan has much to be proud of in his career. His band has won multiple Grammys, had 14 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and sold more than 10 million albums and 30 million tracks worldwide. And yet, he might be most proud of the fact he’s played in seven AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Ams, most recently last week alongside tour winners Jake Knapp and Steven Fisk.

Monahan, who joined us on this week’s episode of The Loop podcast, had plenty of great stories from last week’s Pro-Am and Pro-Ams past, like the time he and “Cashmere” Keith Mitchell bonded over wine.

“My manager Chris comes up to me, I think it was the 16th hole on the last day, and he goes ‘Keith loves wine’,” Monahan said. “I go up to Keith on the tee box and I go ‘wine?’ And he goes ‘why didn’t you say something?”

Monahan’s also teed it up with Denny McCarthy, Chris Stroud and Jason Kokrak, who he says hit the best shot he’s ever seen at Monterey Peninsula. As for Knapp, who he played with this past week, Monahan says he and his caddie came to the conclusion that they were playing with a future major champion.

Not to make you feel old, but Train is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their iconic album “Drops of Jupiter,” which is also the name of the album’s lead single that has now reached two billion streams on Spotify. The band will celebrate the anniversary with a summer tour and with a new album that’s set to drop soon.
