The Genesis Invitational is not at Riviera Country Clun this year and tournament host Tiger Woods won’t be in the field, but the event still has plenty of Woods’ touches on it, like the 36-hole cut, larger purse and smaller field. Not to mention its invitational status.
While Woods had planned on teeing it up, his plans changed on Monday, with the 15-time major winner announcing that he was “just not ready” and that he was still processing the loss of his mother, Kultida Woods, who passed away on February 4 at the age of 80.

To pay tribute to his late mother, the tournament is utilizing the flag stick on the seventh green at Torrey Pines. The number seven and the color white, which is the color of the seventh flag this week, are both significant in Buddhism. Kultida, a native of Thailand, was a faithful Buddhist:
In a tribute to @TigerWoods' late mother Tida, the 7th hole @TheGenesisInv will feature an all white flag.

A tip of the cap to whoever came up with this creative idea. What a cool honor, one Woods undoubtedly appreciates a little extra for another reason that this X/Twitter user pointed out:
Love this. Also fitting that’s the green he won the 08 US Open on, first hole of the sudden death.
