Russell Henley played in the Masters three consecutive years starting from 2013. He missed out last year and appeared destined to spend the second week of April on the sidelines once again – until he caught lightning in a bottle at the Shell Houston Open.
The idea, somewhat similar to a 2011 proposal from Ping’s chairman John A. Solheim, would be to tailor golf balls to golfers or courses so golfers with different distance capabilities could play together from the same tees or compete on certain courses that would play more true to their original heritage for today’s longer hitters.
Call it the Dustin Johnson Rule. Overnight the R&A and USGA announced the introduction of a new local rule that effectively rescinds the penalty applied when a ball is accidentally moved on the putting green. The new rule will be available to committees in charge of competitions from January 1, 2017.
