THE stage is set for a truly great British Open showdown at St Andrews. Jordan Spieth stayed home in the US and won the John Deere Classic in a two-hole playoff, while friend and compatriot Rickie Fowler braved Gullane GC in Scotland to claim the Scottish Open.
Spieth defeated Tom Gillis in two playoff holes to notch his second win at TPC Deere Run, which included a career-low round of 61 on the Saturday. Spieth’s first US PGA Tour victory in 2013 came at this same tournament (also in a playoff) as a 19-year-old, catapulting him to golf fame and setting a host of age records.
Meanwhile in Scotland, Fowler birdied the last to grab victory from fellow American Matt Kuchar, bouncing back from a bogey on the 14th with birdies at the 15th, 16th and 18th to finish 12-under par.
Needless to say, this week at the Home of Golf is going to be a tournament for the ages. Watch all the video highlights below.
