Scottie Scheffler will not have his usual caddie alongside him Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship as he tries to track down Tommy Fleetwood and win his fifth PGA Tour title this year.

Ted Scott, Scheffler’s usual bag man, returned to his home in Louisiana unexpectedly Saturday night to deal with a family matter that he wishes to keep private. Scheffler will use PGA Tour chaplain Brad Payne, who caddied for Scheffler during the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship when Scott missed so he could watch his daughter graduate from high school. Golf Channel reported that Payne drove from Dallas to Memphis late Saturday.

Scheffler started the final round in third place at 12 under par, two shots behind Fleetwood and one behind Justin Rose. Scott has been on the bag for all 17 of Scheffler’s PGA Tour victories.

Payne has been a friend and mentor for Scheffler and both men live in Dallas. He’s caddied for several PGA Tour players in the past and play college golf at Pepperdine.
