Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry first cooked up the idea of joining together for the Zurich Classic last October, in a lunch meeting after their victorious Ryder Cup romp over the United States in Italy.

They were the overwhelming favourites to win at TPC Louisiana. There were times when it didn’t look like they were going to be victorious. But they birdied two of the last three holes today in the alternate-shot format to sneak into a playoff, then made par on the first extra hole when their opponents Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer butchered a couple of shots.

Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry’s win might be as good as the Zurich Classic ever gets

Lowry and McIlroy celebrated, as only Irishmen can, and both were thrilled that what they discussed some six months ago had come to fruition.

Then, proof that the party took a dramatic turn showed up on X/Twitter an hour later.

Video of… drumroll please… RORY McILROY SINGING KARAOKE. And it was to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’”. In front of hundreds of adoring fans. At the top of his lungs. It was glorious.

More of this, please.
