The PGA Tour returns to the Great White North this week for the RBC Canadian Open, one of the oldest non-majors on the golf schedule. However, this year will feature a new host course, TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, as Canadians and non-Canadians alike look to build some momentum before the U.S. Open.
A two-time winner of this event, Rory McIlroy, is in the field after skipping last week’s signature event, the Memorial. He holds the Canadian Open aggregate scoring record of 258, shot in 2019, and he’s finished in the top 10 in each of his last four starts, including a T-4 finish last year.
Also in the field is the defending champion Robert MacIntyre. The Scot won his first PGA Tour title a year ago, a victory made even sweeter with his greenkeeper father Dougie on the bag. Their embrace on the 18th green after the win was a hug for the ages. This year, MacIntyre has his regular looper, Mike Burrows, by his side. Dougie MacIntyre’s undefeated RBC Canadian Open run will continue another year.
Along with McIlroy and MacIntyre, plenty of the game’s best will get a tune-up before Oakmont. OWGR top-25 players Ludvig Åberg, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Corey Conners, Sungjae Im and Wyndham Clark are competing, as well as Canadian golf icon Mike Weir and Nick Taylor, who became the first native son to win the Canadian Open in decades with his 2023 victory.
This week’s winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.764 million cut of the $9.8 million purse.
Private TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley: North Alton, Ontario, Canada
The North Course at TPC Toronto, one of three 18-hole designs at this facility an hour west of Toronto, is a lovely contrast to the British-inspired Heathlands Course and the wild, heavily bunkered, Pete Dye-esque Hoot. The North carries an almost mountainous feel as the large-scale holes roam across a big, isolated section of land. In 2023, architect Ian Andrew, who was involved in the creation of the TPC courses when he was an associate with Carrick, remodeled the North to prepare if for hosting the 2025 RBC Canadian Open.
