When Quail Hollow Club welcomes the game’s best players for the 2025 PGA Championship, it will be hosting a major championship for only the second time, nearly eight years removed from Justin Thomas’ maiden PGA win. Yet as the site of an annual PGA Tour stop, the Charlotte, N.C., course is familiar to tour pros with its reputation for thick rough, slick greens and a challenging three-hole finish, dubbed “The Green Mile.”

While knowing then what to expect from the course, knowing what scores will be like when the PGA of America sets up the course is another story. Thomas won with an eight-under 276 in 2017, but 17 under and 19 under were the winning totals by Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark for the tour stop in 2024 and 2023, respectively. Kerry Haigh, the PGA of America’s chief championship officer who oversees the course setup, might shy away from the super low numbers shot a year ago in the PGA at Valhalla, but “par is your friend” isn’t one of his go-to phrases either.

While what to expect scoring-wise might still be uncertain, who will be competing for the Wanamaker Trophy is starting to come into full relief. Several of the PGA of America’s qualifying criteria have a May 4 date attached to them, locking in a significant portion of the field.

Here’s a look then at everyone in the field so far, according to the criteria laid out in the PGA Championship media guide. Likely to be announced by the PGA of America on May 5 is the additional special invites to get the field closer to the full 156. This traditionally includes anybody in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking not already in the field.

Also, this includes all the past champions who are believed to be competing at Quail Hollow. That list does not include Tiger Woods, who continues to recover from Achilles’ tendon injury/surgery in March.
